I've seen with in-car satellite radios if you just drive under an overpass that you temporarily lose the signal. So I was wondering how a receiver that's indoors can get and maintain a signal... Best answer for How is a home satellite radio receiver able to get a signal indoors (such as with XM home recievers)?:

The antenna is larger and more powerful (it's a hi-gain indoor/outdoor antenna): "High Gain Weather Proof Antenna can be used indoors or mounted outside on a wall or a roof (comes with 20 ft cable)"

Overpass = Concrete + wire mesh + rebar... all that metal and concrete is bad for reception. (And the other person is right about the antenna too) Your House = Wood + Nails + roofing tiles or shingles in most cases...maybe some insulation too. Very little metal. The signal passes through these things much easier...plus with a better antenna in the house you get much better reception.
