Globe-imaging software Google Earth has become a cult web product since its release in June last year. By using the Web-based tool, users can fly around the globe and zoom in on the natural features and whole worlds of information added by other users. Google combines satellite images taken by its partners with more traditional aerial photography and sews in a giant "virtual texture, covering the entire globe. The photograph used in this" base layer "varies. But how is it possible for you to zoom from space to a point somewhere above the roof of your house without your computer to a grinding halt? Do you feel the same?

The biggest obstacle to a convincing three-dimensional skydive is data transfer. If someone does not download from the Internet to a meter resolution image of the whole world would take 69 years to 10 megabits per second Internet connection, and 12,400 years a standard 56K modem. Catalog is regularly updated as new satellites suppliers or online, but can be one of the three years before the image is processed and added to the basic level. A little 'smart about how this image is mapped on a virtual globe on your computer. Exploring the Earth is not little.

So how does Google Earth to dominate it? The software giant will make multi-terabyte base layer structure and using a function derived from the MIP-mapping, stream, only the main parts of the computer. Mip-mapping was raised in the early days of 3D graphics as a way to save bandwidth and processing power in the process of real time rendering. When you see an area of MIP-map closely you can see the texture in all its glory in high resolution. However, as that surface recedes into the distance, the process swaps out the texture for fewer detailed variants, saving the graphics card from drawing a texture you wouldn't see properly anyway.

Google Earth does something similar, using a stack of MIP-maps representing the earth's surface as seen at different distances, and draw a narrow column of that cell at any time. Around the midpoint of the window, you get the texture resolution when zooming, but without the heart, it cleverly uses low-resolution MIP-map in a way that balances image quality and performance. This ensures that the most useful level of detail are sent to the graphics card at all times. KML Google can integrate data from their research databases themselves, but also allow others to work with their own databases or online content. As KML is not a huge leap for those accustomed to working with XML, but also allows advanced users to use Google Earth as a basis for their own geographic information systems, applications, or mashups.

It's a cold day in winter and you're somewhere outdoors, doing a chore or just waiting in the crowd. To feel warmer, you start thinking about a hot cup of cocoa, a fire lit up in the fireplace, or â€" best of all â€" you remember the hot, merciless summer days… Well, it's a hot summer right now in the northern hemisphere and many people out there are daydreaming about winter to feel cooler. Likewise, we will seek refreshment by recounting some of the places in the USA where the winter weather sometimes really leaves you with nothing to do but to stay indoors and stay close to your Satellite Internet!

In the quest for the cold weather, let's first ask ourselves which city has the most snowfall. Perhaps some of you believe the answer to this is easy, as you remember Alaska on the far north. You'd be wrong, however.

Alaska's Anchorage scores only as the fifth snowiest city! In fact, you'd have a better chance to build an army of snowmen in Erie, Pennsylvania. This industrial city located in the northwest of Pennsylvania has an average yearly snowfall of 78.7 inches, according to some data. Flagstaff, Arizona has an even higher average â€" over 81 inches. The chances of having a white Christmas seem better than ever!

Closing in onto the two cities with the highest average of yearly snowfall, we will find them both in the one and only state of New York. Second place goes to Buffalo, New York's second largest city. Seems like Buffalo always ends up second, but we couldn't say that it's the second city when it comes to Satellite Internet use. This technology finds its home in rural America rather than in the big cities such as Buffalo.

We'll end this countdown to uncover that the king of our snowy list is Syracuse â€" one of America's greenest cities! Once the snow falls, this green heart of New York state turns into the white winter wonderland, cool and dreamlike with its lovely country surroundings.

Now, here we can talk about Satellite Internet!

Perhaps not within the city of Syracuse itself, but looking at the country areas around it, there are parts without cable Internet service. Think how uncomfortable it must be to stay indoors on the snowy days without a solid and fast Internet connection, especially for those living in rural areas of the state. And thanks to the humid continental climate, snow sure seems to fall here a lot!

Beyond these snowiest cities, it's worth it to reflect that rural areas across the USA can find themselves in partial isolation during winter storms. In these conditions, Rural Satellite Internet can be a great help, whether it comes to keeping in touch with the latest news, finding entertainment to shorten the long winter hours, or staying in touch with people you care about.

So, has the reading about these cold winter days helped you to shun the summer heat? Some people long for coolness in summer days, while others long for the heat in winter days, but one thing's for sure â€" it's good that we have diversity â€" whether it comes from the Earth's seasons… or the Internet technology!

Satellite mobile phones, also known as 'satphones', are a type of phone that connect to satellites rather than terrestrial sites in order to communicate data. However despite the different nature of satellite mobile phones, they otherwise provide similar functions with text messaging, internet access and of course voice calls. Other satellite mobile phones provide just a partial service and will inform the owner that they are receiving a call â€" but will need them to move to another location to use the phone.

Satellite mobile phones have some advantages over other phones and in particular are often used by mountaineers and trekkers due to the fact that they can receive signal in more places than regular phones. In some cases satellite mobile phones boast near global coverage, and the mountain ranges that would get in the way of terrestrial signals will only bring you closer to the satellites providing signal in this case.

They have also been used in disaster response and have helped to aid people in many recent natural disasters. Satellite mobile phones are also used for a range of other purposes, and can even be a tool for democracy and freedom of speech. Because satellite mobile phones don't go through the local telecom systems this means that they can prevent wiretapping and censorship. In some regimes (most of which score low on the democracy index except for India), satellite mobile phones are in fact banned.

The mobile equipment in satellite mobile phones is known as 'terminal equipment' and tends to be similar in size and shape as regular smartphones. These work using different types of satellites which are as follows:

Geostationary Satellites

These satellites are in 'geostationary' orbit which means that they stay in a fixed geographical position rather than orbiting the Earth or moving round it.

They rotate at the same speed as the rotation of the Earth ensuring that they are always at the same point. These systems have many advantages for satellite mobile phones and provide almost continual global coverage with only a few satellites which reduces launch costs also. However these satellites are heavy and expensive to build and launch individually. While geostationary satellites offer global coverage however, it is also more common to find things breaking the signal as it must travel to the satellite.

LEO

LEO stands for 'Low Earth Orbit' and this is an alternative for satellite mobile phones. These satellites as the name suggests orbit low around the Earth. These move in high speed around the Earth and provide a network of more, smaller satellites. They have fewer gaps in their signal, but this requires quite a lot of coordination compared with geostationary satellites. LEO systems also have the ability to track the location of specific mobiles which can also be useful for mountain trekking and other expeditions â€" but they are sometimes inaccurate by tens of kilometers.

Satellite mobile phones have calling costs comparable to regular charges which can range quite greatly, though they may cost significantly more for data roaming in some cases. Most however have pre-paid plans which include vouchers worth significant amounts. They can also be rented from other services in which case an individual can use them just for expeditions when necessary. Related Satellite Phones Topics

I recently purchased the Toshiba Satellite C655-S5235 Laptop from Newegg. This is a video of me opening it for the first time and going through some of what's included with the Laptop as well as it's features. It uses the Intel Pentium B940 (2ghz) CPU, which uses the Sandy Bridge architecture. It comes with 4GB DDR3 Memory along with a 500 Gigabyte hard drive. It also comes with an SD Memory card reader in the front and a 1.3 Megapixel webcam. The webcam is actually much nicer than I expected. The sound isn't so great but laptop's aren't really known for their awesome sound quality. It's a 15.6 inch widescreen display with an LED backlight. It comes installed with Windows 7 Home premium 64bit and has a battery life of almost 7 hours, which is more than enough for what I need. I purchased this mainly for schoolwork. I don't plan on using it for gaming or anything heavy. This is definitely a great laptop. Hopefully it lasts me a while. Here is the link to newegg if you want it too: www.newegg.com Thanks for watching, and remember to subscribe! www.nazmus.com

This time, hardware makers like Hewlett-Packard Co., Samsung Electronics, Toshiba Corp. and Acer Group played along, producing tablet PCs. Like the earlier generation, some of these looked like today's tablets, but inside, they were really PCs ... Will Surface finally end Microsoft's tortured tablet history?

Multi-tasking is something you take for granted if you are anything like I am. Thanks to the Toshiba Satellite L655-S5107, I have all the things I need to get the jobs done. It has all the features I need, and it gives me plenty of space to explore the Internet as long as I want. It is affordable and priced at under $ 600 at most of the major retail stores.

You might think you will not get much for this price. But, this version of the Toshiba Satellite has a lot going for it.

It is eco-smart so that is yet another reason to get one.

Basic Information:

The Toshiba Satellite L655-S5107 has an Intel 2.4Ghz core i3-370M twin-core processor. This gives you a very responsive computer and boosts your graphics and lends an overall feeling of speed and power to the unit.

Also included is a 500 GB SATA hard drive component. This lets you store many hundred thousands of files without even coming near to maximum capacity. It has 4GB of DDR3 RAM also, so this machine is flying along in power and speed. You can expand the memory to 8GB, as well, so that gives you even more reasons to like this machine.

Beyond the Basics:

This machine offers a comprehensive package of connectivity extras and software that you will find yourself using daily.

A unique system that allows you to arrange files by drag-and-drop interface known as ReelTime cuts down on the amount of time it will take you to locate a file. You can also share files very easily. You can move them from the machine to another device by using a cord and ReelTime's simple interface system.

Answer by John K
I think your problem is your computer and the ISP you are using. Google Earth is NOT a mapping program. It contains photos of the earth taken from satellites and planes over a period of several years. Some photos are in high resolution and you can see cars in driveways. Some are in low resolution and you can't even see a 300 foot shipwreck. Things will improve in time, but that's the way it is right now. Enter your town in the search box thus: mytown, mycountry. Don't forget the comma. Look for a landmark like a river or a major highway, then try to locate your street. You cannot type your street name in. I've found all the places where I live. Some are a blur and some have incredible detail. To benefit from Google Earth you must have a 3d card, lots of memory and a good internet connection. preferably ADSL.

Answer by rongee_59
Yes, agreed. The most important thing is you need a fast internet connection (broadband, at least DSL) and a machine with decent system memory. You don't need that good a video card (I've got a standard one in my laptop) although it helps. I am able to zoom in on my neighborhood and see very good details, including cars parked in driveways. If I zoom in on most airports, I can see planes quite clearly. The amount of detail will depend upon which area you live in; there may not be sufficient interest in your area for a detailed satellite photo to have been taken. A major metropolitan area, like New York, will definitely have a lot of detail, where a rural area in North Dakota may not. When you try to locate your street, put in your address followed by your zip code. The zip code will allow Google to locate your area quicker.

Answer by john f
Your problem is your computer. You need a 3D Graphics Card plus alot of Ram and the larger size monitor resolution for it to work properly. I have all 3 and I can see the top of my house and when viewing New York City it appears that I could be flying directly above the buildings etc.

Answer by ranger_co_1_75
Yes, there are shrooms that can grow in dog poop. There are millions of different types of fungus, and mushrooms are a member of the fungus family. Millions of different types of fungus grow on millions of different types of food sources. They are the engineers that create top soil from dead things. They cause decay. Fungus (mold) is what breaks down aerobic (turned so it gets air) compost piles into compost. And cow dung is loaded with nitrogen and cellulose (grass and straw) fibers, the two ingredients needed by those particular types of mushrooms to grow. Heat has nothing to do with it.

For those of you in rural America, you know that the easiest way to listen to your favorite bands is the old-fashioned way. Rather wait for hours to download a few songs or sit through a laggy stream as it continues to buffer over and over, you can head down to your local music store in a fraction of the time. While there is something to be said for actually physically owning an album, there's no doubt that this is both the less economical and less ecological option. Fortunately, where cable and DSL have previously overlooked you, satellite internet will not let you down.

Providing similar speeds as DSL and cable and at a comparable price, satellite broadband gives rural America a free pass into the musical wonderland that is high speed internet. For starters, there's the ability to quickly download music one song at a time from iTunes, saving you both time and money.

After previewing a few songs from an album, you may decide you want the whole thing anyway and even this can be downloaded faster than the time it takes to get to the mall. Also, it saves on the gas you would use and the materials wasted to manufacture the CD and packaging.

There are also tons of free music options available on the web. If it's music videos you're in the market for, you can find virtually any song you're looking for on YouTube. You can also listen to pre-created video play lists, perfect for any party. Unfortunately, due to recent copyright laws, many original versions of songs have been removed from the site, so you may consider some of these other sites for your free music.

Grooveshark is one of the best online music players to date.

Not only does it give you access to almost every artist and song known to man, but you can actually add them to your library without downloading them. This means that all of your favorites are stored to you as if you own them without any cost to you. Simply log on and they're all there waiting for you. It's also a great opportunity for exploring new music in that you have nothing to lose. If you don't like it, just don't add it to your library, no costs incurred.

Pandora is another free option for broadening your musical horizons. The site is unique that that it delivers bands to you that you may not have otherwise known existed. Once you create a free account, you get the option to create your own "stations" based on one or more artists. For example, if you type in "The Kinks," Pandora will create a tab on your sidebar called "The Kinks Radio" which will play artists like The Velvet Underground and David Bowie, along with songs by The Kinks as well as some others you may have never heard before.

As much as you may have been an advocate for going out to a record store to buy CDs to add to your collection, there's no denying that these online options are not to be missed. At the very least, satellite internet can help you explore albums and bands you have never heard before, ensuring that you know whether or not they're worth actually owning.

"Don't Splash the Bird!" is the closing statement of this plan to give the failed Russian satellite Express-AM4 a new orbit and a lease on life that will improve communications capabilities for Antarctic researchers.

http://thegreatcurve.com Doomed Russian Satellite - Keep It or Dump It? | Video

Why is it difficult to translate Russian language?

Many people believe that Russian translation is an easy thing and all you have to do is to change words from the Russian text into the equivalent words of the English text. However, this is not true since some phrases, if translated literally, would make no sense. Russian translation is a rather complicated process, that’s why it should be performed by experienced native speaking translators.

Russian language is spoken in Russia and in most of the other Former Soviet Union countries (Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan etc.). Total speakers of Russian are estimated to about 285 million people, the majority living in Eastern Europe and Asia. This factor makes it one of the international languages worthwhile translating products in.

Russian translators should understand the terms and phrases which are appropriate for certain translation situations and people.

The other main aspect for an English Russian translator is to understand the Russian way of thinking. Russian as well as every other language reflects the world view of the people, their behavior, stereotypes. So, you can't just learn Russian language, and understand the culture. You need to live in Russia in order to "feel" the Russian language.

Every nation has a lot of concepts and key-words to express them. For example, concepts for English culture are "sense of humor," "gentleman," "freedom," "home." For the Russian culture they are "soul," "heart," etc.

So, a professional Russian Translator has to penetrate into the Russian or English language and use those key words.

This way the Russian translation will be an adequate translation for Russian or English speaking people.

Let’s point out the essential translation tips:

- Translate meaning not words!

- Rely on your wits and savvy - it can prove to be helpful when translating a difficult text.

- Ask a specialist or a native Russian speaker to proofread your translation so that it sounds natural. The way documents are organized in one country may not be understood in another.

- Never accept a project which you know is not within your abilities.

- Emulate the original style of the author, be it humorous, wordy, with colloquial or scientific language, etc.

Language nuances do matter when making a professional translation. Russian language is very rich in expressions and a good translator knows to take into consideration all this.

I've seen with in-car satellite radios if you just drive under an overpass that you temporarily lose the signal. So I was wondering how a receiver that's indoors can get and maintain a signal... Best answer for How is a home satellite radio receiver able to get a signal indoors (such as with XM home recievers)?:

Answer by curiouspbp
The antenna is larger and more powerful (it's a hi-gain indoor/outdoor antenna): "High Gain Weather Proof Antenna can be used indoors or mounted outside on a wall or a roof (comes with 20 ft cable)"

Answer by BustedChain.com
Overpass = Concrete + wire mesh + rebar... all that metal and concrete is bad for reception. (And the other person is right about the antenna too) Your House = Wood + Nails + roofing tiles or shingles in most cases...maybe some insulation too. Very little metal. The signal passes through these things much easier...plus with a better antenna in the house you get much better reception.
